Restaurants in Los Angeles, CA and Portland, OR will see increased enforcement of wage and hour rules due to a new initiative released by the Department of Labor late last month. Enforcement of the wage and hour rules is at an all time high over the past several years with the DOL’s Hour and Wage division reporting a record $225 million in back wages last year. An estimated 10% of the $225 million total was recovered from the restaurant industry. The back wages involved more than 46,000 employees from 5,000 restaurants nationwide. MORE
